1About Weathering with You & Location Areas
Weathering with You (Tenki no Ko) was released on July 19, 2019. The story follows Hodaka Morishima, a 15-year-old high school boy who runs away from a remote island to Tokyo, and Hina Amano, a mysterious girl with the power to clear the rainy sky by praying. RADWIMPS's theme song "Is There Still Anything That Love Can Do?" became a major hit.
The pilgrimage locations are characterized by real-world Tokyo β Shinjuku, Yoyogi, Tabata, Koenji, Ginza β all clustered along Yamanote Line stations, making them easy to visit area by area. As the story is set in rain-soaked Tokyo, visiting on a rainy day deepens the experience of the film's atmosphere.
β Yoyogi / Shinjuku Area β Yoyogi Kaikan (demolished), Shinjuku Kabukicho, Shinjuku Ohgado. Story's central stage.
β‘ Tabata Area β Hina's home, the railway tracks where Hodaka and Hina reunite.
β’ Koenji & Ginza β Weather Shrine (Japan's only weather god), Asahi Inari Shrine (model for the rooftop torii).
2Yoyogi Kaikan (Demolished) & Its Site
The film's most important setting, Yoyogi Kaikan, started demolition work on August 1, 2019 just after the film's release, and was completed by the end of January 2020. The building no longer exists. Only the former site remains.
The most iconic abandoned building in the film β with "PACHINKO" signage, an exterior emergency staircase, and a shrine on the rooftop appearing multiple times. Its Showa-era atmosphere earned it the nickname "Angel Building" among fans. The site of Hina's rooftop prayer scenes β but the building no longer exists. The site has been redeveloped.
β οΈ Note: While the rooftop torii appears in the film, the actual Yoyogi Kaikan never had a shrine on its roof. The model for the rooftop torii is a different location (the Asahi Inari Shrine in the next section).

While Yoyogi Kaikan had no rooftop shrine, this hidden shrine in Ginza did β and is now widely recognized as the inspiration. It's a rare urban shrine on the rooftop of a Ginza building (Daiko Asahi Building / Daiko Kyokujitsu Building). Enter on the 1st floor, take the elevator to the 8th floor, then climb the emergency stairs to reach the rooftop.
A fascinating detail: there is also a shrine on the ground floor, and the two shrines are connected by a pipe filled with earth, symbolically connecting heaven and earth.

The sloping road leading to Hina's house and views overlooking the train tracks appear in the film. The music video for RADWIMPS's theme song "Is There Still Anything That Love Can Do?" was also filmed in the Tabata railway area. The climax scene where Hodaka and Hina reunite β and "change the world" β takes place here.
